This is an original woodcut engraving (Xylography.) cut from an original danish newspaper from the 1800s, which was called Illustrated Family Journal. On the back of the frame is a cut-out of the original front page, date and title etc. Attached to document the origin of the engraving for posterity. Framed in an ornamented gold-painted wood frame and glass. Size with frame: Approx. 32x26 cm. Condition: see pictures.

Vittoria Colonna (1490–1547) was an Italian noblewoman and one of the most important female poets of the Renaissance. She came from the powerful Colonna family and married the marquise Ferrante Francesco d'Avalos. After his death in 1525 she devoted herself more to literature and religion. She wrote mainly sonnets about love, sorrow, faith, and spirituality. Colonna was also part of the contemporary intellectual environment and knew several influential artists and thinkers. She had a close friendship with Michelangelo, who admired her poetry and made drawings for her. She is especially known as an unusual female voice in the Italian Renaissance.
