Vintage Japanese Barometer in coach-/ship's window-design. Japan. End of 20. Century

Decorative round barometer shaped like a coach/ship's window with brass knobs and hinged glass lid, suspended in blue chainwork. The scale is in English. The barometer is used to measure atmospheric air pressure and forecast the weather. It measures the weight of the air to indicate whether the weather will improve (high pressure) or deteriorate (low pressure). Low air pressure (often indicates turbulent or rainy weather) High air pressure (often indicates clear and dry weather). Stamped: Made in Japan.
