Vintage Dalvey Travel Barometer. Scotland, late 20th Century Portable barometer in gilded brass shaped like a pocket watch, with the original leather strap for hanging or carrying. The barometer is used to measure atmospheric pressure and forecast the weather. It measures the weight of the air to indicate whether the weather will improve (high pressure) or worsen (low pressure). Low air pressure (often indicating turbulent or rainy weather) High air pressure (often indicating clear and dry weather).
