Rare Cossack Shashka sword from the Rostov-na-Donu region in Russia, with accompanying scabbard. The sword is used today as a cavalry weapon by the Cossacks from there. The blade is single-edged and of steel, decorated with engravings. The hilt is of lacquered wood and massive brass with traditional filigree engravings. The scabbard is made of wood, covered with black bejset leather and brass fittings.

Provenance: Part of the collection of retired Colonel Søren Bo Jacobsen of military and civilian items he received as gifts on official assignments, as colonel in the Life Guard and as Defense Attaché in Moscow, etc.

The saber was given to Søren Bo Jacobsen by an Ataman (a leader) of a paramilitary Cossack organization, from Novorossijsk in 2006.

Søren Bo Jacobsen started his military career in 1974 and became second lieutenant in 1976 with Russian as his specialty. He served in several units, including the Royal Life Guard, and was later promoted to colonel. In 2000, he was selected for General Staff courses in Russia, as the only Danish officer since 1917, which led to a role as defense attaché in Moscow from 2003-2008. Stationed in Stettin 2008-2013. Afghanistan 2010. After military service, he was private secretary to Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and later estate manager at Aastrup Gods.
