Peter Holm (1889-1966). Impressionist oil painting of a winter landscape with a forest lake. Late 19./Early 20. century Signed. Oil painting on canvas depicting a winter landscape with a slanted, leaf-fallen tree trunk leaning over a partially iced-over forest lake, surrounded by snow and reed forest in evening light. Painted with a loose, forceful brush stroke in a subdued, grey-toned palette, where the cold winter light and the warm sunset sky in the background play together in the reflection of the water. Signed: P Holm. Painted on canvas and mounted in a black-lacquered wood frame with a gilded inner border.

Peter Holm (1889-1966) was a Danish painter, educated in painting apprenticeship in Aarhus 1906-08 and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under Lauritz Tuxen 1909-10. He is known for naturalistic landscapes in a subdued, grey-toned color scale, which can remind of L.A. Ring, with a refined sense of nature that is particularly expressed in his smaller works.
