Small Chinese He Tong figurine, in stone, China. 16./19. Century. Small figurine in beige/sand-colored stone, depicting a lying child with a large round head, crossed arms, and suggested clothing. The motif, also called “the lucky child” (he tong), is a classic Chinese symbol for luck and fertility, known from jade and stone sculptures since the Tang dynasty. The surface shows mineral deposits and age-related patina. The material is likely limestone or soapstone.
Provenance: Originates from antique and old collection of Royal Registrar & Furniture architect. Michael Bloch (b.1931-2015)
