The motif depicts a woodland area near Bøllemosen close to Hillerød, with still water mirrors and leafy trees in a cool, Nordic blue-green palette, in an impressionist style.

On the reverse side of the watercolor is a handwritten provenance note that documents the work's inheritance through the Gamborg, Nellemann, and Nørtheberg families over several generations. At the top, it reads, somewhat unclearly, 'watercolor by the artist Knud Gamborg'.

Knud Gamborg was best known as an illustrator for 'Illustreret Tidende', and is considered one of the first Danish illustrators.
