Chinese wine cup in serpentine/jade, China. 19/20. century Small wine cup (jue / wine goblet) carved from a single piece of olive-green serpentine or jade stone. Cup shape with short foot, entirely smooth and without decoration. The material is semi-transparent with a characteristic waxy sheen. This type of cup has long roots in Chinese culture, where cups of jade and serpentine stone were traditionally used for rice wine at ceremonial occasions.
Provenance: Originates from antique and old collection of Royal Registrar & Furniture architect. Michael Bloch (b.1931-2015)
