Chinese wine cup in serpentine/jade, China. 19/20. century Small wine cup (jue / wine bowl) carved from a single piece of olive green serpentine or jade stone. Cup-shaped with short foot, entirely smooth and without decoration. The material is semi-transparent with a characteristic wax-like gloss. This type of cup has long roots in Chinese culture, where cups of jade and jade stone were traditionally used for rice wine at ceremonial occasions.
