Indian Measure Vessel, North India, late 19th / early 20th century Volume measure in hammered brass with characteristic concave hourglass form, a form specifically used for measuring liquids such as milk, ghee, and oil in the traditional north Indian measurement system. The exterior is decorated with engraved geometric bands. The base bears embedded control marks, likely official verification stamps from a colonial-era market inspector that confirmed the capacity of the measure.
