Indian Measure Vessel, North India, late 19th / early 20th century Volume measure in hammered brass with characteristic concave hourglass-shaped form, a form specifically used for measuring liquid goods such as milk, ghee and oil in the traditional north Indian measurement system. The exterior is decorated with engraved geometric bands. The base bears embedded control markers, likely official verification stamps from a colonial-era market inspector who confirmed the vessel's capacity.
