Indian lassi-bowl, Punjab British India. 1909. Metal drinking bowl, hand-engraved in the North Indian Ganga-Jamni style with three metal colors: silver grey background, red outline lines and gold-colored details. The exterior is decorated with blooming tree motifs, leaf tendrils and paisley boteh-figurines. As a central decorative element, the bowl bears the Persian word جام (jām, “bowl”) in large calligraphy, a classical poetic convention in Islamic metal art. “25.01.09 – 0536/10” is likely the production date (25 January 1909) and a series mark from an export order.
Dimensions: approx. 12 cm. Ø. 8,7 cm. Condition: see pictures.
