Rare Danish West Indian military hirschfænger M 1830.
Made with a massive brass fixture; pair of tang and handguard cast in one with a downward, curved pair of plating engraved No. 182. On both sides of the fixture is engraved an anchor cross with the year 1830 and a crowned stamp.
Straight, single-edged blade with mid-located od.
Used by troops on foot in the West Indian army force.
The model is known to be extremely rare, as only a few examples have been preserved from the Tøjhusbeholdning. A historically interesting and collector-worthy colonial military hirschfænger from 1830.
Provenance: It belongs to the collection of antiques dealer Jørgen Zoll. According to Jørgen, he bought it in the 1980s from descendants of a Danish plantation owner from Danish West India.
