This type of axe was found over several periods, Late Passage Grave period, Single Grave culture, and Dagger period.

The Late Passage Grave period, Single Grave culture, and Dagger period were important periods in the agricultural Stone Age. In this time, tools and weapons changed, and different objects gained great significance. The Valby axe was a special type of flint axe, used for tasks such as woodworking, but it also had a symbolic meaning. Some flint axes were found in graves and sacrificial deposits, showing that they were not just practical tools. They could be signs of status, power, or affiliation. In the Dagger period, flint technology became very advanced, and flint daggers were produced, resembling metal weapons typical of bronze, which began to emerge during the late part of the Stone Age.
