The Funnel Beaker culture existed in Denmark around 4000–2800 b.c. and was one of the first peasant cultures. People cultivated grains, kept cattle, sheep and pigs, but also hunted and fished. The culture is named after its characteristic clay beakers with a funnel-shaped opening. The Funnel Beaker people built large stone graves such as dolmens and jættestuer. Many different axes from the culture have been found. The axes were used as weapons but also as tools for tasks such as woodworking and forest clearance, but some may also have had significance as valuable objects or symbols.
