The Funnel Beaker culture existed in Denmark around 4000–2800 b.c. and was one of the first farming cultures. People cultivated grain, kept cattle, sheep, and pigs, but also hunted and fished. The culture is named after its characteristic pottery with a funnel-shaped opening. The Funnel Beaker people built large stone graves such as dolmens and jættestuer. Many different axes from the culture have been found. The axes were used as tools for tasks such as woodworking and forest clearance, but some may also have had significance as valuable objects or symbols, and others were used for fighting.
