Claude Schwartz, Paris (1958-) Vintage unika Studio jewelry Collier in Silver, Gold, Garnet, Jasper, and Lapis lazuli. From the 1960s. Hallmarked: French silver crab hallmark and partially master hallmark.
Rare and distinctive French artist's jewelry crafted by goldsmith Claude Schwartz, Paris, created in the characteristic studio jewelry style from the 1960s. This sculptural necklace is handmade in sterling silver with details in gold and composed of carefully selected natural stones and decorative medalion chain inspired by ancient coins.
The centerpiece is a large oval jasper with a beautiful natural pattern play in blue-gray and organic nuances, centered by a cabochon-cut garnet in warm 14-karat gold setting. On each side, deep blue lapis lazuli stones are similarly mounted in 14-karat gold, adding depth and classical elegance to the composition.
The chain is adorned with reproduced ancient coins, giving the jewelry a historical character and emphasizing the artistic fascination with antiquity, which was popular in European design from the period. The combination of precious metals, natural stones, and archaic motifs creates a sophisticated and timeless expression.
A strong statement piece with clear atelier character and collector appeal, typical of the best French workshop workers from the mid-century period.
Provenance and info: The jewelry collection of a foreign Dane, who is a retired jewelry dealer with a shop in Paris in the mid-to-late 1900s. This jewelry is one of 4 jewelry pieces acquired by the jewelry dealer in the 1960s in Paris and all jewelry pieces are made by the same goldsmith. Only one of the 4 jewelry pieces is hallmarked with the master hallmark and crab symbol. The master hallmark is only partially visible and shows the head of a unicorn, which is the animal symbol in Claude Schwartz's hallmark. It is precisely this jewelry that has the hallmarks. The provenance above makes it possible for us to attribute it with great certainty to Claude Schwartz.
