Antique small Caucasian silver Kinjal-dagger. Kubachi, Dagestan. Sent 19./early 20. century Double-edged Kinjal-dagger from the Dagestan region in the Caucasus, with hilt and scabbard richly decorated with niello silver patterns inlaid with characteristic leaf- and geometric motifs. The blade bears an Arabic inscription in cartouche on both sides. The hilt is completed with a characteristic round pommel; the scabbard with a knob-shaped dupsko. Small Kinjal daggers of this size were produced in Kubachi predominantly for children, women, and Russian nobility.

Provenance: Originates from the collection of a Danish nurse, who from approximately 1947–60 was part of the UN's vaccination program in Africa and Asia. In this connection, she acquired this dagger.
