The character reference book was a small book, which was compulsory for domestic staff to acquire and keep. Character reference books existed from 1833 to 1921, where they were abolished. From 1867 it was forbidden to write about abilities and behavior in the character reference book.

Issued in Copenhagen. With original stamps, handwritten text and attestation from employer and preserved lacquer seal with string.
