The character reference book was a small book, which was compulsory for servants/tenants to acquire and keep. Character reference books existed from 1833 to 1921, where they were abolished. From 1867, it was forbidden to write about abilities and behavior in the character reference book.

Issued in Copenhagen. With original stamps, handwritting and attestation from employer and preserved lacquer seal with string.
