About the artist: “ Hakon Bagger Mielche ( October 21 1904 in Fensmark October 22 1979 in Odense ) was a Danish travel writer, journalist , cartoonist and adventurer, who was a member of the Adventurers' Club . Mielche has published a long series of books that have been translated into more than 13 languages. He traveled for many years for the weekly magazine Familie-Journalen . Mielche, who was the son of a glassmaker at Holmegaard Glasværk , attended Atterup School with Jens Larsen, graduated from Haslev Gymnasium and was educated as a visual artist at the Académie Colarossi in Paris . In the years that followed he had various jobs as a sailor 1920-21 , circus artist 1922-28 , advertising artist and theatre painter 1928-33 , became an employee at Jyllands-Posten 1933-41 and was a travelling correspondent at Aller Press from 1941. He participated in the Monsunen Pacific Expedition 1933-35 , in an expedition to Tierra del Fuego 1936 , and was a war correspondent in Spain 1937. During the occupation 1940-45 he had to stay in Denmark reluctantly due to a travel ban. This meant that during these years he occupied himself with writing biographies of Danes who had lived an adventurous life abroad. examples of this are the books Nick Nielsen's wonderful journey and Around the world with breakfast , as well as the autobiographical From my bunk bag . In 1945 he became a SHAEF war correspondent, traveled by sailing ship along Columbus ' route in 1948 and was in Antarctica in 1949. Mielche was press officer on the Galathea 2 deep-sea expedition in the years 1950-52. On this expedition he wrote the books Galathea sets sail , Galathea in the east , and Galathea returns home . He received the Galathea Medal from the Royal Danish Geographical Society and was made Knight of the Dannebrog .” Source: Wikipedia.
