Provenance: Danish silversmith Hans Christian Matthiasen ( HC Matthiasen - Nykøbing B 1903 - 1957) brought this piece of furniture back from Norway and it has been inherited through the family. History: The Dragon Style was a Norwegian national romantic style that was especially popular from about 1880 to 1910, and is inspired by the ornamentation from stave churches and the art of the Viking Age. Furniture like this was designed with inspiration from finds such as the Gokstad and Oseberg ships and the carvings of the stave churches, which can also be seen in the Viking-like motifs on the drawers and panels. They were produced during the period when Scandinavian national romanticism was at its peak, and the furniture was intended to signal solidity, history and pride in the country's heritage. Approximate dimensions: H: 77 W: 125 D: 69 Height to underside of table: 64 cm. Condition: The furniture is in good condition, two keys are included for the locks that work, but the locks can be a bit fiddly, they do work though. Otherwise, see pictures.
