Antique Japanese lacquer box Tea caddy, from around 1850. With key. Exquisitely beautiful tea caddy, with working lock and key, with beautiful inlaid floral motifs in mother of pearl. History: When tea first came to Europe, it was sought after and extremely valuable, so the nobility locked the tea in so-called Tea caddy boxes, the first tea caddies were types like this imported from Jalan, later tea caddies were made of ceramic and wood, produced in Europe. Dimensions: 22.5x16.5x8.5 cm. Condition: the lacquer has been touched up with black paint. The lock works somewhat, but not optimally, otherwise see pictures.
